You would wonder, 'who are the Kings of Napa' Well, they are The King's family, the wine business has brought the family success and applause as well as secrets, betrayal, and lies, all thanks to Reginald King, the family's patriarch.
We're introduced to a little girl's moment with August King (Reginald's daughter), Bridgette (August's cousin and best friend), and Melanie Pierce (Bridgette's Mum).
After their time out, August makes a call to her Playboy brother, who surprisingly goes by the name Christian, to be sure he makes it to the family dinner later in the evening. He also reminds her to inform their big brother, Dana about her idea which she believes he'd love.
She immediately gives Dana a call. Dana is the CFO of their vineyard and he's also got a side hustle as a tailor. August tells him about making it to dinner on time, as well as her marketing presentation. He reminds her that it's against their Mum's rules to discuss business during dinner.
Along the line, August gives her Mum, Vanessa a call and she immediately reminded her about her rules, no business talk during dinner. However, August was able to steal a few minutes for the presentation after dessert.
Finally home, she gets to test a fruit Bridgette picked in her garden, and afterwards, she goes off to her father who was sitting in the garden.
August is her father's sweetheart, she walked up to him and reprimands him for smoking. In his defense he claims that if he can survive from covid, then, he can survive that too.
August got the chance to pitch her idea to her father only to have him say she should chill out for a bit. A few minutes later, Bridgette comes to call them in for dinner, and all three of them, with the girls at his sides, head towards the house.
After dinner, August begins to brief everyone about her 'brilliant' idea which Bridgette buys, but Dana doesn't. With a little contemplation and input, Reginald decides to give it a thought later. This annoys Dana and causes him to get into a heated argument with August, causing them to exchange words, I was waiting patiently for the first fight.
To put a stop to it, Reginald takes a stand in annoyance. Telling both Dana and August that they're family. While he was still talking, Reginald had a heart attack throwing everyone into chaos, they couldn't revive the old man.
During the funeral, August felt guilty about his death, it was her brilliant idea that led to the argument in the first place, she still gave a tribute on behalf of the family before the final rites. Christian and his aunt Yvette, Reginald's sister are also having a hard time holding up.
Dana demanded a meeting to be held to discuss how the House of Kings would go on. His intentions were questioned by Yvette and Bridgette, but they were cut short when his wife who had to bend really low just to share a kiss with Dana intervened, he is quite small. August agreed to a family meeting.
While trying to clean out Reginald's study, August, Dana and Christian affirmed to the fact that although, Reginald is dead, it feels like he's everywhere. August smells one of his clothing and
Vanessa walks in and takes it. At the verge of breaking down, all three children comfort her, assuring her that they'd pull through it, together.
Everything was going well as the lawyer read the will because everyone got an equal share in House of Kings, Dana's wife also got something. Things escalated when the lawyer declared that Dana was to retain his position as CFO while August would take up the position as President of House of Kings.
Just before Dana could properly argue with that latest development, Melanie walked in on them. After exchanging pleasantries with Vanessa, she tries to talk Vanessa into moving out of the room to discuss some financial matters, but Vanessa decides that she spills whatever news she's got, besides they're all family right? Melanie, tries to kick against it but Vanessa didn't budge.
She finally let's the cat out of the bag and informs the family that she borrowed Reginald $10 000 000 and she needs it. She borrowed it to him two years ago when he was in crisis and was turned down by every bank. Vanessa and the rest of the family found it really difficult to believe.
Vanessa felt that Melanie was lying to all of them, she was really upset. She began to push Melanie really hard. Why didn't she tell her all these while? Why is she having secrets with her husband? How did they become this close to warrant a loan?
Melanie clearly had had enough. She stands her ground on the fact that she isn't lying and she blurts out a bitter secret. She infact had an affair with Reginald. They had a child together, Bridgette!!!
Now everyone is in shock. Bridgette walks up to her Mum to ask her the meaning of what she's saying and her eyes confirm that she isn't lying. Bridgette storms out of the house with Melanie following her closely, promising Vanessa to hear from her lawyer.
August and Christian talk about the new development. She makes an attempt to call Bridgette but is stopped by Christian. He feels she'd be bashing her Mum which she did. After all, she was lied to and was taken to a grave that she was made to believe was her father's every July.
August realized who Melanie's lawyer was, Kelvin, an ex of hers who has actually been contacting her for a while now.
Yvette tries to hurriedly walk past Vanessa, who was rather too quick to stop her. Vanessa immediately questions her knowledge about her brother and Melanie and all she possibly knows. Yvette tries to explain to her that it was just a mistake and she meant the world to Reginald but Vanessa thinks otherwise and she storms off.
Dana tried engaging her in a conversation but she's clearly not in for it. She asks him if he knew about the transaction between Reginald and Melanie since he's CFO but he clearly doesn't. Vanessa tells him that perhaps August would make a better president than he would. He immediately tells her that he'd not be taking the blame for anything.
August walks into her Mum's room and finds her taking solace in food. Vanessa tells her to make sure that she repays Melanie back since she's president. August tried to explain to Vanessa that Bridgette is just a victim in all these new drama but Vanessa isn't hearing any of it and wants her out of House of Kings.
For old times sake as well as the latest development as regards to the loan, August meets with Kelvin. She makes an offer that they pay a million dollar in installments rather than ten million dollars in full cause it'd ruin the company. He promises to speak with Melanie about it.
Yvette and Melanie meet up. Melanie tried to justify her actions, that she was pushed beyond limits and besides, they'd have still talked about it sooner or later. Melanie tells Yvette to make sure August does her right. Yvette on the other hand tries to tell her that she isn't involved in this mess but Melanie reminds her that she's been aware right from the start so she's involved.
At the office, Bridgette barges in on August, almost accusing her of deactivating her access card into the office making her to come in through the back door. August clears the air immediately saying it's all her Mum's fault. She asks her how she's holding up with all this new change when Vanessa walks in on them and asks her out of the office. She offers to make a good recommendation for her in another office, but House of Kings is Bridgette's life, she makes it clear that she doesn't want to see her there anymore and she storms out.
Bridgette gets really upset and August promises to fix it. Bridgette leaves but not without leaving a warning for August that she's a King now, and she'd better fix it.
Yvette walks in on August going through old photos of herself and Kelvin. He was close to being just like her Dad, something she's always wanted. She questions her dad's decision on choosing her to be president and Yvette helps her see good reasons why she's infact better than Dana for president after a little pep talk.
The family sit together to discuss the loan and how to pay off. Dana still disagrees with August on her every idea, he still hasn't accepted the fact that she's president now. He tells the family that it's because his father couldn't see him, and he couldn't look his father in the eye (due to how little he is) that's why August got chosen. Vanessa tried talking him out of it but he wasn't having any of it as he walked out, with his wife following closely.
They all went to a meeting with Kelvin and his clients to discuss the settlement. Melanie agreed to a five million dollars settlement on a condition that Bridgette gets her job back. August happily accepts but Vanessa is quick to oppose. She's more comfortable with going to court about this matter, but Melanie advices her against it. There's definitely something Melanie still knows that Vanessa doesn't cause she claims to know all the chapters of the book and Vanessa would only lose more money if they go to court.
August goes over to Bridgette's with two bottles of wine. Bridgette said she had to start painting again afterall to earn something. They had a good time, drinking directly from the bottle. August also said she's got a plan.
Vanessa finally takes a seat and asks Melanie how it all happened, which she spills.
She further asked if it's only once it's happened, but Melanie goes speechless while Vanessa listed different occasions she wasn't available that she'd have slept with Reginald.
Out of rage, Vanessa storms out, followed by Melanie, August and Bridgette.
Melanie advices August to be very careful, that Reginald had a lot of demons no one's aware of and they're dangerous. Just as Bridgette and Melanie leave, August gets a call from an anonymous 'friend', asking her how she feels, cleaning up her father's baggage. He reminds her that he expects that she keeps up with her father's payments, Friday, same place, same time. Now August is in real shock.
What payments? Where? And to whom?
