This HBO’s new six-part limited series The White Lotus is set on a luxury Hawaii holiday resort.
The opening scene starts with a young handsome man, Shane (Jake Lacy) sitting alone at the airport when a conversation ensures between him and a nice old couple.
He reluctantly shares that a murder took place at The White Lotus resort the same hotel he honeymooned at with his new bride and the corpse is being loaded in their plane, When they ask him where his wife is, he arrogantly tells them to leave him the f**k alone, yap! there goes all that interrogation.
After abruptly dismissing the couple, Shane watched as the airport staffs wheel the body into the plane. We're left wondering if that is his wife in the coffin or someone else.
We are taken back to what happened a week earlier on a boat cruise. There's Shane with his new bride, Racheal (Alexandra Daddario), and other guests as they arrive at a resort.
A-list exec Nicole Mossbacher (Connie Britton) and her husband Mark (Steve Zahn) their daughter Olivia (Sydney Sweeney), her tag along best friend Paula (Brittany O’Grady), and their son Quinn (Fred Hechinger)
Another guest is Tanya McQuoid played by Jennifer Coolidge, she checked into the hotel alone. Her acting really blew my mind, I expected her to break into comedy every second she arrived at the hotel but Tanya's immediate request is a massage.
Tanya seemed out of it, she is in mourning and on the island to scatter her mother's ashes which she felt she has left in the boat ride. Tanya is incapable of finding anything on her own, she seeks the assistance of Lani, a hotel staff who is trying to hide the fact that she is pregnant to find her bags then her mother's ashes.
Getting into the honeymoon spirit, Shane and Rachael were about to have sex when Shane realized they had been given the wrong room. Like who interrupts sex with his newly wedded wife to complain about a mix-up in the booking?
Unlike Rachael who loves everything and is contented with the room, Shane would let it go until he speaks with the manager, Armond. (Murray Bartlett) about getting the wrong suite.
Armond had double booked the honeymoon suite but he did not reveal this to Shane, he was polite and calmly told Shane about the Palm suite he is already occupying, it is a better choice than the one he would have had.
The guests in the hotel are like babies as Armond lectured Lani and they are their mummies and daddies giving them what they want.
Shane ended up getting something entirely different from what his mother booked, I mean he did see a virtual tour of the rooms as he was quick to state. Amongst being arrogant and obnoxious, Shane is a mama's boy.
The Mossbacher family is quite the case, their daughter Olivia and Paula her friend think they are in a remake version of Mean Girls. Olivia made Quinn stay in the kitchen while Paula is comfortable calling Nicole by her name. In her defense, Nicole did tell her to call her by her name.
Mark on the other hand thinks he has testicular cancer. He tells Nicole to see his balls, they're bigger than usual but Nicole says she doesn't know if it's any different as she hasn't seen them in a while.
His fear of cancer is based on the fact that his dad died of cancer, he's just not sure which one. Nicole jokingly tells him to spend his final moments with his son, as he waits for the hospital results which he agrees to but he can't get his mind off his situation and thinks coming to the island was "nuts"
Everyone seems obsessed with their troubles' Shane did not let the honeymoon suite issue go, he called his mum to confirm the booking and she did. Even after Rachael told him to let it go and enjoy their honeymoon, Shane wanted to have a word with Armond about the booking while he and Rachael were having dinner.
Mark couldn't get his mind out of his testicles, he kept checking them even while swimming with Quinn.
Olivia and Paula had a chat with Rachel by the pool. Rachael mentioned she saw them on the boat and on the plane. Rachael was quite chatty about herself and her job as a journalist but the girls kept insinuating she married Shane for money.
That conversation left Rachael feeling awkward, they don't see her in the same class as they are. Rachael might not fit into their class but she does have an amazing body that left the girls stunned.
This is Lani's first day on the job and she gets a little prep from her boss who advises her to reduce herself into the background (which she is already excelling at) and treat the guests like sensitive children who want to feel special and be given everything they don't know they need yet.
That is quality advice for Lani who is soon to be a mother as well. Her disguise is going well but her water breaks and She ends up going into labor in Armond's office. He was too self absorb thinking about the guest that he did not realize the trainee was pregnant.
Another staff Belinda might have bitten more than she could afford with Tanya. Tanya has been persistently asking for a massage in the spa is not going to take no for an answer, offers to give her craniosacral therapy instead. The treatment goes over so well with the grieving heiress that she grows an attachment to Belinda.
Tanya did tell her that she drove all the men in her life out because she gets really attached. Their section left Tanya wanting more, she asked Armond to get her a massage section with Belinda and even spent her night reading about her.
As this week's episode of The White Lotus ends, everyone is left anticipating what episode two to hold, will Lani make it and successfully have the baby and would she be fired?
What will the doctor say about Mark's cancer suspicion? Is Rachael the body that was being transported on the plane?
