'Halifax: Retribution' Recap Season 1 Episode 5

This week on Halifax Retribution. The entire city is under the countdown and is down to 3 hours and Daniel is on the move for his big surprise as the Police Minister's press briefing is being played. They would not be intimidated by the countdown or the terrorist that has had Melbourne under siege, all facial recognition systems would be put in place to get the killer.

Meanwhile, the task force is working round the clock trying to figure out the malware Daniel is using to infer with their systems. Jane has not had any call yet from Daniel as she tells Tom.
An hour to the end of the countdown Daniel takes his sniper to the rooftop as usual. Meanwhile, the task force sits around to watch what would happen next since they could no stop the time from running out.

Daniel took over the entire city alarm system to get everyone’s attention. He comes on screen with an automated voice and his face hidden just as any terrorist would do to tell everyone this is a community announcement, he has been trying to save them from corporations that want to take over their lives with their facial recognition bill and gadget, it is time for them to take back the planet from this corporations. After the address, Daniel left a list of demands titled Time To Wake Up, he wants them to abandon the facial recognition bill, all CCTV networks, prosecute google, Facebook, and Twitter for hostile data collection. Demands that can never be met.

After the broadcast He hacked the police minister’s car, taking over the wipes, stirrings, and brakes till he drove her to exactly where his sniper would reach in the middle of the city. While watching the footage from the minister’s car as Daniel intended for the entire city to see, Jane calls Daniel to talk him out of killing more people, she knows he is not a monster but no one would listen to him if more people die. Daniel decides not to kill the police minister and also leaves his gun as a sign that he would not be needing it again.

Jane explains to the taskforce that Daniel leaving his gun might mean a good thing for their case, he might go off the rider and stop the killings but might do something even more drastic if his demands her not met during this time. Nick says they better find him before then.
Jane also remembers a protest Daniel said he took part in back in uni, they might want to check on keywords on facial recognition and CCTV just as his demands stated, they might find something in connection to him.
The Police Commissioner came personally to talk to Tom after the incident with the Police Minister. They need someone to blame for the embarrassment today and Tom gets the fall for it, he wants his resignation by Friday.

Bronski informs Jane Mitch is awake now, she went to the hospital to speak with him but he would not talk to them. Jane suggests she talks to him but Bronski knows that’s a bad idea, she is not supposed to be talking about this with her.
When Jane got to her apartment building she called Zoe to talk to her but it went straight to voicemail. Jane informs her that the police would come to talk to her again and she should call her when she can.

Jane couldn’t take just looking at Mitch’s photograph so she goes to talk to him at the hospital. Jane is trying to get him to talk with her hand on his neck brace when Bronski enters to stop her. She made it clear she wasn’t supposed to see him.
Nick meets with a colleague, Jimmy in his car. Jimmy asks him about where they are keeping Mitch promising to go through the right channels.
Jimmy got to Mitch’s room to threaten him, he shouldn't be the hero, he should keep his mouth shut or he and his mates would deal with him and his girlfriend. Mitch was supposed to dispose of the gun rather than sell it to Jack as he did.

Mandy took Zoe to a fancy restaurant, somewhere Zoe wasn't comfortable being at. She kept having images of Ben as her anxiety kicked in. In an effort to get herself, Zoe calls Jane but she does not pick, Jane wasn't close to her phone at the time of the call. Mandy is able to get Zoe to calm down while she was having the episode.

The team gets a lead going through the university protest as Jane suggested, they find a Surveillance Alliance protest that took place some years ago. The manifesto of the group is the same as Daniel’s manifesto now.
Meanwhile, since the visit of the police commissioner, Tom had refused to come out of his office, frantically throwing things on the floor out of anger.

Tony one of the girls from the Surveillance Alliance protest is brought in for questioning at the station. She begins to point out the people in the photo but when it got to Daniel she says she does not remember. Jane was watching her closely and could see she was hiding something. Jane asked if anyone in the group studied computers and Tony says she does not remember, it was a long time ago.

Jane asked Erin to look into the guy Tony would not identify, it is just a haunch. While they are talking, Bronski comes to call Jane informing her of Mitch escape, he is on the rooftop demanding to talk to her.
Jane went to talk to Mitch as he requested, he was not the one that killed her partner it was a cop now he is framing his girlfriend for it. Jane gets the name of the officer behind the murder, Jimmy Copper.

Nick and Bronski with a team of officers go to arrest Jimmy at a bar but he is denying the allegations.
Jane goes to talk to Tom while he is wallowing in self-pity. Jane reminds him of how he got her to the task force, he can continue to get himself doped up or grow a backbone and work with his team to stop this killer that has been terrorizing the city.

Tony knew the man she refused to talk about, he is Paul, and old friend. She drove down to his trailer park where his dad said he would be to talk to him. Daniel was really shocked to see her.
They went down to a restaurant to talk about old times. Tony tells him he was her friend but some of the things he said to her back then in uni scared her, that was why they stopped talking. Tony informs him that the police were asking questions about him and Daniel immediately gets apprehensive, what did she tell them and why was she talking to the police? Tony tells him to relax, it was because of an old picture from uni. Daniel gives a laugh that even Tony knows seems suspicious but asks that they leave. When Tony goes to clear the bill he hacks into her phone to listen on her calls.
The moment Tony dropped Daniel off she called Jane to tell her he is the one but Daniel heard the whole conversation. Jane tries to call back and Tony’s phone is off.

Following the last call, they trace Tony's call to the trailer park she last visited. Tom sent men to the location immediately while Kip was able to get a photograph of the killer.
A woman is walking her dog when they find the body of Tony by the side of the road, another victim Daniel did not mean to kill. He kept crying and banging his hand on his wheel in his car.
