'For Life' Recap: Season 1 Episode 2


After the help from Wild Billy getting his guy to forge the letter Aaron used to win his case the pilot Episode, this week's episode Aaron has to repay that debt by representing Joey Knox's solitary case. Wild Billy wants Joey out of solitary for a purpose and Aaron must get him out at all cost in this to repay his debt.
Safiya had already talked to Aaron about representing Joey but he refused at that time because it would affect him with the black community in Jail having him represent a member of the narcist supremacy but with the debt he owes Wild Billy, Aaron knows he has no choice but to pay up.
Aaron has to meet with Safiya again, she shows him the video of Joey assaulting a guard without any provocation. Aaron would look into it but he needs to file a petition demanding his police report in Manhattan. No mention of Maskins and no press is the deal with Safiya this time to let him file the petition.
Aaron goes to see Joey in his cell and informs him he owed Billy a debt and the Warden needs to know why he attacked the guard before she can let him out of solitary. Joey is no rat, he wouldn't talk to Aaron about what happened.
Henry Roswell, Wallace’s mentor for the bar exams comes by to see him concerning his plan to petition the D.A for his police report and the fact he would be suing the NYPD. It’s not a good idea, he can’t keep filing frivolous cases it would only get judges to look the other way when he comes before them. Despite Henry's reservations on the case, he doesn’t have a better idea of how Aaron can fight this so he agrees to help Aaron get some precedents to help his case.
In dealing with the news of Jasmine having a baby, Aaron wants to meet Ronny the baby daddy, Marie decides to take Ronny to go see him in jail.
Before Aaron is taken to court to file his petition, the captain of the guards warn Aaron about representing Joey. His boys are not going to take it likely that he is representing Joey to get favors from the Warden. One disciplinary case in his report, he is done for life. Good luck suing the police.
Aaron stands before the Judge to defend his writ of Mandamus but the counsel repressing the police claims there is an ongoing investigation on the report so they cannot grant him assess to it. Not one conviction has been made over nine years so what ongoing investigation is going on? The Judge is willing to grant the application of the can't come up with detectives and evidence showing the ongoing investigation.
Maskins wouldn’t let Aaron get his hands on that report so he needs the counsel representing NYPD in his office in the next hour but first, he has to pay Roswell a visit.
Turns out Roswell used to be bodies with Glen and together they ruined people’s lives when they worked. Aaron came in contact with his conscience so he is helping Aaron rewrite the wrongs they did all those years ago.
Aaron has to speak with Joey’s roommate seeing Joey would not talk to him. Joey was spooked the morning of the fight, something wasn’t right with him that day.
With the authority of the warden, Aaron is allowed to assess the security footage from the day of the incident. Joey had a talk with one of the guards because something got him scared.
Aaron is having issues with his community for taking up a case for Wild Billy when a lot of brothers in here want him representing them. As a sellout, no one would talk to him or help him with anything.
Aaron just walks straight to Wild Billy to talk about Joey. Turns out Joey was trying to get away from Wild Billy that’s why he wanted solitary. Wild Billy isn’t interested in his theories, he should just get Joey out.
Anya isn’t worried about Wallace anymore seeing how Maskins is already scared by Aaron so let him. Maskins has threatened to call the post on them claiming they set Aaron up against him but as long as Safiya has that job they would always come at them so let him.
Aaron realizes Wild Billy wants Joey out of solitary so he can kill him. He needs a favor from Jamal one of the brothers. Aaron already has the guards against him, the brothers against him he doesn’t need Wild Billy too. Jamal acts like he is with the brothers against Aaron as they watch them but would help him see what he can do later to help him represent Joey.
Marie takes Ronny to the prison to see Aaron like she offered to. That way he can ease the tension he would be feeling.
The meeting with Aaron is one that leaves Ronny a bit scared but brave enough to look Aaron in the eye and tell him he loves Jasmine and has always wanted to marry her they are only heard of schedule now. Aaron wants. Ronny to make sacrifices with Jasmine, whatever they need to do they do it together, he should not leave her holding the bag.
While they are talking, Walter one of the inmates comes to tell Aaron that Jamal wants him to check his client’s medical record then acts like he is having a beef with Aaron for being a sellout. Prison Politics.
Joey still wouldn’t corporate with Aaron so Aaron has to trick him into signing a release of his medical record claiming it is a right for hearing.
Turns out Joey tested positive for Syphilis and his roommate Phil has Syphilis too. Aaron gets Phil Lee to testify since his client would not testify and Phil is not a member of the gang.
Aaron promises to get Joey transferred to another state.
At the hearing, Phil testifies that they were in a sexual relationship and Joey got beaten in the shower by his gang members.
Aaron also questions the guards in the hearing. Joey had gone to the guard that day to ask for solitary because he was scared for his life. The guard started the paperwork but tossed it away when Joey attacked another guard. Joey gets out and the warden would get him transferred to another prison, somewhere Wild Billy cannot reach him.
Aaron has to show his community he was not Wild Billy’s pun but needs the guards off his back so Safiya decides to give Anderson a slap on the wrist.
Jasmine sits in court for her father’s hearing on the petition he filed. The Judge hasn’t come in yet so Aaron pleads the guard to just let him talk to her for a minute.
O’Reilly comes to court with the counsel representing the NYPD They come up with an argument that there is a witness that came forward with new evidence and they kept the person hidden to protect his life. Jasmine is disappointed as the Judge refused to grant the petition on this grounds. O’Reilly watches how Aaron struggles to see his daughter.
Aaron gets back to his cell and calls Ronny. Ronny has to protect his girl. Her grades have been down because she keeps going over to the prison to see him, she gave up her dream of going to California for college because she wanted to be close to him. Aaron did not know this but wants him to tell Jasmine to keep her head up.
Aaron gets back with his community after they see he was not Wild Billy’s bitch.
Henry Roswell gives an interview for Aaron. The D.A Maskins is scared that’s why they refused to give him access to his file. Maskins watches the interview in anger.
Safiya, on the other hand. reads an article about Aaron winning in round one and losing in round two then sees a video of Aaron and his daughter. She gets to understand what he is fighting for.
Safiya allows Aaron to do what he has to do.
